WELCOME TO WASHINGTON,  a small village nestling gently in the side of the South Downs watched over by  Chanctonbury Ring .  The ‘Ring’ is not named after the clump of trees planted in 1760 by Charles Goring (and which subsequently suffered severe damage in the storm of 1987) but for the circular ditch and embankment that was built by the ‘Ancient Britons’.

Today Washington has a thriving community with a flourishing first school, church, and of course village pub.  Many visitors are attracted to Washington as it lies along the South Downs Way and the walks and views are spectacular.
